The basics of wiring a CD Player:
The first thing you need to do is get a "Wiring Harness" from a local store or Internet retailer. Just find the right plug for your car by checking the back of the packages. Scosche and Metra make very good plugs for most vehicles. These are available at Wal-Mart, Parts-Express, Circuit City, Best Buy, almost everywhere.

The wiring is simple:
Put the radio's wiring harness on your right side, and the new car's wiring harness (or "plug") on your left side. The following wiring color codes are generally the same for most plugs and radios. Connect the right power wires together, checking the owner's manual before you start, to make sure the color codes are the same.

Just Connect the Plug's Power Wires to the Radio's Power Wires
Plug's Yellow wire = Radio's Yellow wire
Plug's Red wire = Radio's Red wire
Plug's Black wire = Radio's Black wire
Plug's Blue wire = Radio's Blue wire (Optional)
Plug's White wire = Radio's White wire
Plug's White w/ black = Radio's White w/ black
Plug's gray = Radio's gray
Plug's gray w/ black = Radio's gray w/ black
Plug's green = Radio's green
Plug's green w/ black = Radio's green w/ black
Plug's violet = Radio's violet
Plug's violet w/ black = Radio's violet w/ black

Radio's RCA cables connect to pair of RCA cables that go to an amplifier (Optional)
  Universal Color Codes:
Yellow = Constant Power. Connect this to a constant power. Also referred to as "Battery +".
Red = Switched Power. This line is on when the radio is on, and off when the radio is off.
Black = Ground. This connects to a clean metal surface on the car's body or frame.
White / Gray = Front Speakers (+)positive line.
White / Gray with Black Stripe = Front Speakers (-)negative line.
Green / Violet = Rear Speakers (+).
Green / Violet with Black Stripe = Rear Speakers (-).
RCA cables - connects RCA power wires to send current to an amplifier. (Optional)
Blue or Blue with White Stripe = Remote power lead for an amplifier or power antenna. (Optional)

Where to Get Mounting Kits and Wiring Harnesses:
You can get these things at most stores like Wal-Mart, AutoZone, PepBoys, Circuit City, Best Buys, and local stereo shops. You can also buy them online at several Internet retailers like PartsExpress.com or XSnoise.net.

Mounting Kits:
Depending on your specifc car, you may need to buy a Mounting Kit. A mounting kit contains all of the parts you'll need to install the new radio in the factory location. These kits are made by Scosche and Metra as well, and they have step by step instructions for specific applications. To see if you're vehicle requires one, just check the back of the product's box like you did for the wiring harness. If you're car doesn't have a stock radio location, you may need to find a Under-The-Dash mounting kit. This allows older cars and trucks to install a radio under the dash or on the headliner.

TIP:
Be sure to install the radio's metal "sleeve" before securing the mounting kit to the right location. Also remember to secure the mounting kit and run the wires through the sleeve to install the radio.
